How to Tune a CB Radio Antenna?

Tuning your CB antenna accurately is very pivotal step towards making your CB system meet all your communication expectations most efficiently and effectively. For technically correct tuning of your CB antenna, you need to know the basics of the process to do it right in first go. First make sure you have everything available that makes a CB system complete i.e. a CB radio, CB antenna, coaxial cable of adequate length, SWR meter and the relevant tools required.
Then follow these steps as given below:
1-Set, install and connect your CB radio and antenna as prescribed in the product manual given with your CB system. Stryker offers the most detailed manual with each of its products for easing the installation process for the users.
2-Now connect a SWR meter between the radio and the antenna using the jumper coaxial cable. Before turning it on for the tuning and calibration, make sure your vehicle is in an open space where the calibration and testing can be done uninterruptedly.
3-Now turn the meter on and start adjusting the CB antenna to take the appropriate readings. The reference channels for taking these readings are Channel 1 and 40. Check with each of these channels one by one and make sure that you get a reading that’s below 2.0. This reading will ensure the most effective performance from your CB system. Do not compromise with this reading on any point higher than 2.0 as that won’t let your CB system operate safely.
Now that you are done with the tuning in the most professional manner, you can route, drill and fix the wiring neatly so that the setting doesn’t seem like a wired mess. Now all you need to do is to switch on your CB system and enjoy the means of communication that no other device would be able to provide.
